Kate Pearse

After metalworking part-time for ever, I started Glasswing in 2005. Since then I have been making silver, gold and sea glass jewellery and sending my work to customers all over the world. I absolutely love what I do, and continue to develop my range all the time, very often adding new pieces in response to customers' special commissions.

I am totally blessed to have lived for the last ten years in Cornwall, one of the most stunning, rugged and remote regions in the UK. This is where I collected most of the sea glass I use in my jewellery. Having recently relocated to South Devon, the new workshop is taking shape in another amzing part of the world! With the sound of sea gulls on the roof, and the harbour and beaches a five minute walk away, the coast and all its magic continues to inform and inspire my lifestyle and my work.

As a family, we are passionate about getting out and exploring the countryside as often as possible, and promoting the protection of the environment. This is reflected in my workshop practice and the ethical jewellery I design and produce, which incorporates ethically sourced gemstones, fairtrade & recycled precious metals and found objects - well mostly sea glass!

I trained at the University of Wales, I graduating in three dimensional design, (3D Design - metal working, jewellery and furniture design). I specialised principally in large scale metalwork, (coming as I do from a long line of Cornish blacksmiths) designing and making metal furniture, public garden pieces and body sculpture. When I followed a blacksmith journeymanship myself, I worked on large scale steel structures including architectural sculptures, large gates for historic properties and metal furniture for private clients.

My traditional silversmithing skills have been developed through a range of courses, experimental workshop practice and sharing ideas with other craftspeople.

SEA GLASS and recycled sterling silver jewellery ~ upcycled, recycled eco-glamour. With Glasswing sea glass jewellery you can own a little piece of marine history, as well as wear the most beautiful of recycled art. The sea glass for Glasswing Jewellery is collected on the fabulous beaches of Cornwall, and other UK beaches and beyond.  I also buy some really special pieces from carefully selected genuine sea glass collectors worldwide.  It's then hand drilled to make beads and pendants for sea glass earrings, sea glass necklaces and bracelets. Jewellery can be bought  from stock, or made to order.

RECYCLED SILVER AND GOLD I source the recycled silver and gold from the Hoover and Strong Harmony metals range in the US, and from Capella and Cooksons in the UK. I use 100% fair trade metal, ethically produced from recycled silver.  The metal is extracted from heavy industry such as photographics, as well as from used jewellery.  If you'd like to discuss having other ethical jewellery pieces in my range made in recycled precious metal and recycled or ethical gemstones, this may be possible,  depending upon what gems I can source, or already have and/or your order size.   Contact me if you would  like to discuss any special requirements.
