Sizing, or Resizing your Ring

Sizing your Ring

  • Probably the most reliable way to ascertain your ring size is to visit a high street jeweller and ask them to size your finger using a sizing gauge.

  • The jewellery shop will use a sizing gauge. This is usually a box of plain steel rings in various sizes and widths.

Be sure to be measured using a sizer of approximately the same band width as the ring you would like to wear, as the width can affect the size quite a lot.

Don’t be tempted to simply use a ring they have on display and then take the size from that. You can’t be 100% sure that whoever labelled it, got the size correct in the first place!

Also keep in mind what kind of width you’d like your ring to be, as the wider the ring, the larger the size you need - the jeweller should have sizers for narrower and wider style rings.

  • Alternatively, you can use a ring sizing belt. Please let us know if you need one to be sent to you free of charge when ordering your ring.

Full instructions are included with the ring sizing belt. If you have any questions when it arrives, you can always ask and I’ll be happy to help!

  • All Glasswing rings are measured by the standard British (Wheatsheaf) scale, however I can convert the size for you if you only know your own country's system.

The measurements in the International Ring Sizing Comparison Chart below are for a rough guide only.

Resizing your Ring

  • It’s not always possible to find out what ring size you need, especially if you’re working towards a surprise proposal!

If you have any difficulties at all working out the required ring size feel free to get in touch and I will be pleased to help.Item description

  • If you’ve bought your ring and it’s not quite right, you can take it to your local jewellers for alteration, or send it back to us.

Increasing the size by slight stretching:

We can increase the size by slight stretching, by 1 to 11\2 sizes, and this is a fairly simple process and is free.

You’ll just need to cover the cost of postage each way.

Increasing the size by by more than a size and a half:

If it’s a bigger stretch you need, especially if there are stones/settings involved, and more than a size and a half is needed, it may need to be done by specialist laser welder which I can organise, (or you can organise this locally to you).

This normally costs around £30 + VAT.

  • Reducing your ring size:

Stone rings: Making your ring smaller, if it has stones, is also totally possible but calls for a slightly more complicated process, involving cutting and removing some material and re-soldering and re-finishing.

This normally costs around £30 + VAT plus P+P.

This can usually be done locally to you or it can be done here if you send it back with the required size.

Again, do ask if you need a sizer sent to you.

Plain rings are simpler to make smaller:

Depending on the amount of the reduction needed, this can be done relatively easily in the workshop or locally to you. It will normally just be the price of the postage back and forth if you decide to send it banc here, and is a normally quick process.

  • Please refer to the methods already listed to determine the size you need.

Alternatively, you can use a ring sizing belt.

Get in touch, or simply order a sizing belt to be sent to you .
